by David Tompkins

As the world continues to progress its online presence, the idea of a digital nomad lifestyle and being able to work remotely becomes increasingly enticing. Being a digital nomad means you work entirely online and can be anywhere you want. It comes with many advantages, such as an enhanced quality of life and the ability to travel wherever and whenever.

Trying to decide the path that will work for you can be difficult, but the best thing you can for yourself is begin researching the different options there are for becoming a digital nomad. Take note of your interests and skills and think outside of the box, as all great digital nomads do. The list below provides some of the many ways to become a digital nomad.

Here are 5 Steps to Become a Digital Nomad

ways to become digital nomad

1. Move Your Office Job Online

This option isn’t possible for everyone, but if you already do most of your job from a computer, it’s worth asking your boss if you can commit to working remotely 100%. This route requires no additional learning because you’ll be able to take your current job and shift it into a digital nomad career.

2. Find a Remote Job Online

Searching for a remote job online is a stable option because it allows you to become an employee for a company without needing to step foot in an office. This is becoming increasingly popular as companies realize many of their positions don’t need a physical location for success. There are a large variety of different remote positions that allow you to work part or full time than ever before.

3. Freelance and Contract Work

Freelancing or contracting for companies is a great option for creating your schedule and becoming your own boss. You can sign up on sites like Upwork, Fiverr, or Freelancer and begin offering your services immediately. This option is great for people with preexisting interests and skills or beginners who want to work in a field they’ve always been interested in. Some options include social media content creation, writing, and virtual assistants among thousands of other options.

4. Start an Online Business

Becoming an entrepreneur is another possibility as it creates the most flexibility for digital nomads. This can be a difficult venture to begin and takes time to build so if you’re hoping to become a digital nomad immediately, you’ll need to consider that this approach often takes time to build. Once it does take off, you’ll be your own boss, choose your schedule, and live wherever you want.

5. Get Creative

If you have a creative side, you can sell your work or products on sites like Etsy or eBay. This is a great option for people who want to sell digital or physical goods online. This allows you to work for yourself and do something you genuinely enjoy, which is great for artists and creative minds. If your products are physically small and require minimal materials, or if you sell digital products, you’d be able to work from anywhere.

Now that you’ve seen some of the ways to begin a nomad career, you can start deciding what the best route is for you. There are so many opportunities in the online world today and there’s a place for everyone.

Just remember, if you plan on becoming a digital nomad and working location independently, you’ll need global health insurance when living abroad. There are many options and resources online to help you and it’s something you’ll need to consider if you want to live in another country.
