Travel to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is an incredible city where tradition meets modern innovation. The UAE’s capital is culturally rich and offers many enjoyable experiences. From the spectacular architecture to the world-renowned museums, theme parks, desert landscapes, and beaches, Abu Dhabi has it all and is a fantastic city to visit, where the past and the future meet.
Whether you are there to explore history, art, travel in luxury, or seek adventure, this city has it all.
Here are the top eight reasons why Abu Dhabi should be your next travel spot.
1. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is Abu Dhabi’s most famous landmark, and one of the world’s largest religious structures. With numerous white marble domes, reflective pools, massive crystal chandeliers, and beautiful carpets, this mosque is a masterpiece.
Everyone who travels to Abu Dhabi visits this mosque, and going there at sunset is a breathtaking experience, where you will witness the white domes glow from the sun’s rays. It is truly an amazing experience to travel there as I have done.
2. The Louvre in Abu Dhabi
Designs by the architect Jean Nouvel. This museum’s dome appears to be floating over the building and casts a beautiful pattern of light and shadow. Within the museum, some galleries span from ancient civilizations to the modern era. This cultural gem bridges together different parts of history, and bridges together history from the East and West, showing a wide variety of art exhibits. Unfortunately, when I travelled there, it was closed for the day, but I want to return there again when it is open. Make sure you check opening times before you go.
3. Yas Island
Yas Island is known for being the entertainment capital and an excellent destination, offering entertainment centers for everyone who travels to Abu Dhabi. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is home to the Formula Rossa, the fastest roller coaster in the world. Then there is Warner Bros. World, which has six indoor theme parks. If you want something involving water, there is Waterworld, an Emirati culturally inspired waterpark. Finally, there is Yas Marina Circuit, where you can watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix and even drive race cars. You will always feel entertained when going to Yas Island.
4. Take a Desert Safari While You Travel to Abu Dhabi
If you want to go somewhere outside of Abu Dhabi, go to the desert, where you can explore the golden sand dunes and enjoy the peaceful silence.
By taking part in a desert safari, you will be able to try a multitude of activities, such as camel riding, dune bashing, sandboarding, falconry, quad biking, sunsets, cultural experiences, and desert dinners with a view of the stars. When you travel to Abu Dhabi, be sure to try outa desert safari, as it is the best way to have an unforgettable experience in the UAE’s desert.
5. Beaches
Abu Dhabi is home to incredible beaches, where you can enjoy luxury, family-friendly vibes, and nature year-round with the warm weather. For example, there is Saadiyat Beach, which has clear waters, soft white sand, and protected turtle nesting sites. Then there is Corniche Beach, which has a family-friendly environment, incredible scenery, and a wide range of activities. Yas Beach is also a popular beach destination, where you can relax, enjoy recreational activities, and experience the natural beauty of Abu Dhabi.
Whether you are into beach or water sports, or with your family, or just wanting a chill time, this beach has it all. When you travel to Abu Dhabi, make sure to explore the luxurious Zaya Nurai island, a private island located 15 minutes away by boat, which has Maldives-style overwater villas and clear turquoise waters.
6. Rich Cultural Heritage
Abu Dhabi has rich cultural roots and has taken significant steps to preserve its Bedouin, Islamic, and coastal heritage. If you are planning to travel to Abu Dhabi, you can explore this at Qasr Al Hosn, the city’s oldest stone building, showing Abu Dhabi’s development. Then there is Heritage Village, a recreation of a traditional Emirati Oasis settlement, where local craftspeople show how weaving and pottery are done. Finally, there is Al Ain, a UNESCO World Heritage city with forts, date palm oases, and ancient tombs. These sites showcase the UAE’s respect for the past, allowing people to gain insight into it.
Note that when living or travelling in the UAE, you should make yourself aware of the local customs and laws, as some actions that might not be a concern in your home country can land you in some difficulties with local authorities.
7. See Nature and Wildlife When You Travel to Abu Dhabi
Other than the skyscrapers and dunes, Abu Dhabi has a diverse ecosystem and wildlife. We recommend visiting Mangrove National Park, located minutes away from the city, where you can kayak, bird-watch, and see marine life. Sir Bani Yas Island is a luxury eco-resort and wildlife sanctuary where you can see giraffes, cheetahs, deer, oryx, and gazelles on a safari drive.
Then, there are the Falconry shows, where you can learn about the ancient bond between humans and falcons and more about this Emirati tradition. These nature and wildlife reserves demonstrate Abu Dhabi’s ongoing dedication to environmental preservation, offering a distinctly unique experience in the UAE.
8. Safety and Public Transportation
Travel to Abu Dhabi, one of the safest cities in the world. It is low in crime, well-policed, clean, and an ideal place for solo and female travelers, couples, and families. No matter where you are in this city, you will always feel safe.
The transportation systems are excellent, with ride services, reliable taxi services, Uber, and an expanding transit system. English is also widely spoken, and people from many countries call this city their home, creating a warm and welcoming multicultural atmosphere. From budget to luxurious travel, Abu Dhabi has a wide variety of transportation systems.
